Buried Tears caught my eye because it is set in the Staffordshire Potteries. I have always loved to read the Arnold Bennett stories and also, When I was a Child, by Charles Shaw, to find Buried Tears set within this area was a must for me and to my joy found a beautifully written story, based on fact.
Vivien takes us through the lives of the families who live in Goldenhill Stoke-on-Trent, during the 1940's.These people were poor, hard working and very proud. The story tells of the hardship and heartbreak of the Hackney family and with each page of the book I felt I had become a part of that family.
I would highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from Vivien Jones.

I read Buried Tears in two sessions and thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, I live near to the area of Goldenhill, but I could have lived anywhere in the country and the story would have been just as riveting. I thoroughly recommend this book.

Having recently finished Buried Tears by Vivien Jones, I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone with an interest in the dynamics and hardships of family life during World War Two in a low-income area of Staffordshire. The characters in the book are beautifully brought to life by Vivien, and you realise from the book, just how these people would have been had you met them in the street. Life was hard, and family life harder, but there was a community spirit that brought the village together in light of a tragic incident, and made the family concerned a stronger unit and affected all of them for the rest of their lives. The story of Wilf Hackney is a brief history of a hard-working, family-orientated man whose life was influenced by the tragedy he experienced as a young boy and, as a biography, is beautifully written by his beloved daughter, Vivien. This book will make you laugh, and it will make you cry, but you will be left with the feeling that you would have liked to meet Wilf and share a cuppa with him.

Buried Tears is a fantastic read! I moved to the local area around 15yrs ago and loved the insight as to what community life was like.
This book comes with a very high recommendation, filled with love, humour and strength.
It is descriptive and thoughtfully written and the passion of the author is evident throughout.

I loved this book. I grew up in Goldenhill and lived across from Vivien's grandparents. It brought back so many memories of how life used to be. The freedom we had as children, the closeness of families. I do hope she will have another book published soon. This book is going "home" with me in September. I have cousins lined up to read it!!

Buried Tears was purchased for my wife as she is an avid reader of paperback books, reading one every two weeks!!! We were aware the author had just published her first book and my wife was dying to read it. As the book is centred on family and events around the "Potteries", where we live, it was going to be interesting seeing how the book's story unfolds.
My wife confirms its one of the best books she has ever read. Clearly a lot of thought and insight has gone into it to capture my wife's attention. We now await the author's next book !!!

Outstanding❤ Buried Tears' story is heartfelt from the moment you start to read it. Very well written! From beginning to end you feel the family's pain & anguish of years of suffering & the not knowing. How someone could hold on to something for so many years without releasing the pain... A truly beautiful, moving , but sad sorry. Written with love straight from the authors heart & soul . A 5* read.
I loved this story. I lived about two miles from where this was set and am of an age of the 'eldest wench' so the picture Viv paints of the people, their mores and the area brought back vivid pictures I had hidden away. It is a very moving account of the understanding a child has for their parent as they approach the end of their life. I found it very moving having lost my father the same year and who was of similar ilk to Wilf 'a rough diamond of the Potteries' but of strong moral character. It was also a deep insight into how grief and blame can colour and influence a person's life. Thank you Viv for sharing this with us.

I love reading true stories and this book kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what happened next. It was well written and I just couldn't put it down. It depicted well life how it was in those days with descriptions so good that you could picture in your mind just how life was then. I would recommend this book to everyone of all ages, male and female.
